Greeneville Planning Director Randy Davenport updated the Municipal Planning Commission on the Scooter’s Coffee site. Crews have about five months to finish the project at the former Long John Silvers location, on 1595 East Andrew Johnson Highway.
Construction on the property started last year, but stalled for some time. Davenport said the General Contractor had to pull his sub-contractors off the site due to reportedly not receiving payment for work done. That issue has been addressed and he said the developers are now financially up to date.
According to Bert Seay, Building Official for the town, the reason for not paying crews was due to confusion on who was responsible for the payments, between the Scooter’s Coffee franchise owner and the property management crew. Seay spoke with the developers regarding the project timeline and explained construction on the site will have to get done by May, as the site has been an eye sore and is still unfinished.
The developers have plenty of time to complete the project, according to Seay. If it’s not completed by May, Seay said they will have to start from the beginning, everything will be voided, and permits would need to be applied for again.
