A Greeneville woman was swindled into giving an Apple gift card after trying to buy a car off Facebook.
At around 11 p.m. last night, Greeneville police responded to a report of a confidence game.
Upon arrival, officers contacted the victim, who stated she noticed a Facebook post advertising a 2012 Honda Accord for $2,000.
The victim messaged the suspect, who allegedly requested a downpayment of $300 through Facebook.
When the victim wasn’t able to get the payment to work, they messaged the seller, claiming that they were worried it was a scam.
The seller then sent a photo of their driver’s license to prove legitimacy, according to the report.
The suspect requested that the victim meet them at Walmart with a $100 Apple gift card to satisfy the downpayment and receive the vehicle.
The victim sent a photo of the gift card and waited at Walmart for the exchange, but the suspect reportedly never arrived to deliver the vehicle.
The suspect then contacted her one last time, saying that the card did not work and that she needed to send another one.
Greeneville police advised the victim to seek private prosecution.
