In high school hoops action on Monday night, the South Greene boys’ basketball team would earn a hard-fought win in overtime against Tri-Cities Christian 82-75 to advance to the title game of the Big H BBQ Classic. TJ Buckner would lead the way for the Rebels with 23 points while Jase Roderick added 19, Cooper Kelly with 18, and Woody Hixson with 17.
The Rebels will play for the championship on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. from Cherokee High School with radio coverage on 103.1 FM WIKQ.
In other action on Monday, Greeneville would host Gatlinburg-Pittman and the state-ranked Lady Highlanders would pick up the win 65-38. The boys’ game would feature some bonus basketball as it took overtime, but Gatlinburg-Pittman would hold off a late Greene Devil run and earn the win 76-71. The Greeneville boys will now head to Charleston for the Charleston Showcase Holiday Tournament while the Lady Devils will play Thursday at Daniel Boone.
North Greene would also play a stand-alone game on Monday defeating Abingdon (VA) 78-69. Jason Britton continues to be one of the top scorers in the state as he finished with 29 points in the win.
