A fire on Blue Springs Parkway Friday appeared to have been started by someone burning trash.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Department responded around 5:30 PM to the 2400 block of Blue Springs Parkway on the report of a fire in the wood line. Upon arrival, the fire had almost been put out by responding fire and rescue units.
When emergency personnel arrived, there was reportedly no one around the fire scene or in the house on the property. The tree line was engulfed, burning around an open shed and expanding toward the house. The fire was put out before it reached the residence.
The Sheriff’s Department was requested back to the scene a short time later due to fire and rescue personnel discovering burned trash within the fire scene that could have been the cause.
The owner of the property arrived at the scene and said he has had others there helping him work on the house. He said a family member was helping pick up trash in the house and threw it behind the shed. The victim denied they burned any trash. He said they got a permit the last time they burned on the property, which was a couple of weeks prior.
