The Budget and Finance committee approved a resolution for an application to be submitted for the Tennessee Agricultural Enhancement Program Grant totaling $150,000.
The grant if approved would help with the construction of an outdoor learning/demonstration pavilion. This is to be constructed near Coolidge Street on the vacant lot owned by Greene County. The lot is on the Takoma Campus, which is directly across the street from the future home of the Greene County Agricultural Extension Office and currently being renovated.
The grant provides funding for projects that promote agriculture, agricultural education and resources, and provides a learning environment for adults and youth. During the Budget and Finance meeting Wednesday morning, Greene County Mayor Kevin Morrison was given approval to apply for the grant through the Tennessee Department of Agriculture.
County and Extension leaders believe the pavilion will be ideal and used to facilitate onsite-learning experiences. According to the resolution, the Pavilion would be utilized by the Extension Office, 4-H members, and other community events. Approval is needed from the Greene County Commission and will discussed in their November 20th meeting.
