The Greene County Budget and Finance committee approved for Mayor Kevin Morrison to apply for a $1,000,000 Community Development Block Grant, which would be used for improvements at Kinser Park.
The county has been investing in the park on 650 Kinser Park Lane but now with this grant have the opportunity to make more improvements that have been needed like renovations for health and safety at the Kinser Park Pool and resurfacing. Other improvements include installation of ADA compliant playground equipment, safety and accessibility to the boat ramp, resurfacing of the tennis courts and putt-putt course, and lighting for the ball fields.
Other projects discussed at the meeting include setting up a stage entertainment area around the pool and the addition of a Volleyball Court, according to Mayor Morrison. Kinser Park, owned by the Tennessee Valley Authority, is leased to Greene County for the enjoyment of its citizens and other visitors.
The application for the $1,000,000 grant is to be submitted by March of 2024. The resolution to apply for the grant will go before the Greene County Commission for final approval during their meeting on November 20th.
