The Town of Mosheim will consider second and final reading the approval and uses of an automated license plate reader. That’s among items on the agenda for Thursday’s meeting of the Mosheim Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
The reader was aquired earlier this month and named Operation Gatekeeper. Mosheim Police Chief Dustin Jeffers said the reader will only be used to protect residents from criminals who enter the town to cause harm. Jeffers said that camera will not be used for enforcement of traffic violations and does not have access to any database containing personal information.
The system can provide alerts on vehicles suspected of being involved in crimes or those on a hotlist of wanted persons, stolen vehicles, or missing persons.
The ordinance to be considered Thursday sets that as the official policy of the Town of Moshiem.
The board will also consider a Code of Ethics for all town employees and board or commisison members.
The Public Hearing and Board meeting begin at 7PM at Mosheim Town Hall.
