Greeneville City Council will consider a plan to purchase land for the construction of a new school during its meeting on Tuesday.
The 54 acres of land off Jeff Woods Memorial Drive is currently owned by SMN Investments, and is being sold at a cost of $1.81 million. Closing on the property is planned for no later than November 1. The site has been identified by school and town officials as a potential site for a new school in the future.
Also to be considered is a proposal for a traffic signal at the intersection of the East Andrew Johnson Highway and Serral Drive. A bid for roof repair at Fire Station 1 in the amount of $158,250 will be considered, along with the purchase of five Ford Explorer Police Interceptors at a cost of nearly $230,000.
City Council will also vote on an ordinance regulating the keeping of domesticated chickens within the city limits. The amendment would allow up to six hens on a property for personal use only, and allow for construction of fenced enclosures and henhouses.
Tuesday’s meeting will begin at 4 p.m. in the G. Thomas Love Boardroom at the Greeneville Energy Authority on North College Street.
