The Greeneville Fire Department responded to a landfill fire on Old Stage Road in Greeneville this morning about 4 AM.
According to GFD Chief Alan Shipley, the fire is currently under control with fire units on the scene working on hot spots. Heavy equipment was required and is being used to remove debris. Shipley says there is no estimate as to when the smoke will be completely put out.
Greeneville Fire Department’s Battalion Chief Benjy Ryans said the Tusculum and Mosheim Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene and brought tankers. Public Works was on the scene this morning with a Track hoe to assist with putting out the hot spots. There were no injuries reported, according to the Fire Chief.
