A Carriage Lane woman reported she was scammed out of money while attempting to buy puppies on Facebook.
The woman said she was looking on Facebook Saturday for a small dog. She found a post about Yorkie puppies on the White Pine/Dandridge yard sale page and messaged the seller. The man told the victim to send a $250 deposit to hold the dog until the following Saturday.
The victim then sent nearly $260 for her ex-mother-in-law, who also wanted a puppy. The suspect then told the victim that he did not receive the money, so she sent another deposit totaling almost $260. The suspect asked her to send more after he said he still did not receive the money, but the victim said no.
On Monday, the suspect messaged the victim again stating he did not receive payment. He said if she did not send the money, he could not hold the dogs any longer.
The victim called her bank and submitted fraud claims for the payments, according to the report filed with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department. She sent the suspect a total of $765.
