A Chuckey woman reported a counterfeit check to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department after she attempted to apply for a job to work from home.
The Jearoldstown Road woman reported on Monday she was browsing online for home-based jobs and received an email from the suspect, who sent her an application for a job redistributing packages for his business.
The victim then started texting the suspect about the job and the suspect said he was going to send her a check paying her in advance. He said she needed to use the check in advance to assist him by sending off packages and picking them up. The suspect reportedly said the money he was sending the victim was from art work he had sold.
The victim received a check for $5,000. She took it to be deposited into her bank account and was advised the check appeared to be counterfeit. She then filed a police report.
