In one of the marquee matchups of the 2023 high school football season, Greeneville begins their week a day early as the Greene Devils host Alcoa tonight from Burley Stadium.
Greeneville (2-0) enters the matchup coming off a blowout of Cherokee last week 69-0 letting out some frustration following the no-contest matchup with Dobyns-Bennett the week before as the game was called due to lightning in the 3rd quarter tied 14-14.
Alcoa (3-0) has started the season on a high note with three straight wins over Ravenwood, Bearden, and Tottenville out of New York. Alcoa is one of the high school football powerhouses in the United States with 21 state football championships dating back to 1977 including winning eight straight from 2015 to 2022.
This will be the first matchup of two of the state’s top football programs since 2012 with the series tied at one win a piece with Greeneville winning in 2011 42-14 and Alcoa getting some revenge in 2012 42-0.
Coverage of Alcoa and Greeneville begins at 7:00 p.m. with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. with radio coverage on 99.5 FM / AM 1340 WGRV, 103.1 FM WIKQ, online at WGRV.com, and Comcast channel 18. The game will also be televised as part of the Rivalry Thursday series on WVLT.
