A Greeneville man was arrested after being stopped for speeding on Wednesday afternoon.
A car driven by Timothy Bitner of Woolsey College Road was stopped around 4:00 PM for driving 58 mph in a 35 mph zone in the Old Asheville Highway and Little Indian Creek Road area.
Bitner reportedly acted nervous. When asked if anything was illegal in the car, he said no and that he only had a bag full of unopened alcoholic beverages and some cigarettes.
A records check indicated Bitner had a failure to appear warrant out of Greene County. When deputies went back up to the car to make the arrest for the warrant, a strong odor of marijuana was detected coming from the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle was then conducted. An open container of alcohol was found in the door. A suboxone pill was also found, along with marijuana and a grinder.
In addition to his outstanding warrant, Bitner was charged with possession of schedule 3 and 6 drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, and violation of the open container law.
