As you may have heard, Bright’s Zoo in Limestone is holding a naming contest for the world’s rarest giraffe born at the zoo on July 31st.
The female giraffe was born without the iconic spots that define the species. According to a press release, Bright’s Zoo says the last record of a giraffe being born without its trademark spots was in 1972 in Tokyo. The staff at Bright’s Zoo is asking the public to participate in voting on a name for the new baby giraffe.
The zoo has narrowed the names down to four. Anyone wanting to vote on the baby giraffe’s name can visit the Bright’s Zoo Facebook page. This will run until Labor Day, September 4. On that day, they will tally up all the votes and announce her name.
