The Greene County Partnership (GCP) hosted a Teacher Supply Depot on August 15 and 16.
Open to all teachers in the City and County school systems, this event is a giveaway for school and classroom supplies that teachers are free to browse and take what they need. Usually a one day event, this year included an extra day for new teachers to come shop early.
Kendra Hopson, Education and Workforce Development Director for the GCP, said “Teachers do get some funding to buy supplies for their class, but they do not receive funding for supplies that do not directly affect student learning, so disinfectant wipes and tissues for example, are not covered by these funds.” Around 50 teachers received supplies.
“The GCP would especially like to thank Walmart Distribution Center for supply donations and Mayor Kevin Morrison and Greene County for the use of the Annex building,” said Hopson. The next Teacher Supply Depot is planned for January. If you would like to support the Teacher Supply Depot, please contact Kendra Hopson at 423.638.4111 or [email protected].
