The Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development reported this afternoon the state recorded its lowest unemployment rate since the federal government began tracking the statistic in 1976.
The state’s seasonally adjusted rate was 3.1 percent in July. Last month’s rate tied the previous all-time low of 3.2 percent.
Between June and July, total nonfarm employment increased by 7,300 jobs. During the past year, nonfarm employment in Tennessee increased by 72,400 jobs.
The national unemployment rate for July was 3.5 percent, down slightly from 3.6 percent in June.
County unemployment figures will be released next week.
