The Greeneville City Council gave approval for the Town of Greeneville to accept and apply for grants including the Property Conservation Matching Grant Program, Tourism Enhancement Grant, Violent Crime Intervention Fund Grant, and Driver Training Matching Grant Program.
Assistant City Administrator Cathy Osborne spoke with the board and said the Property Conservation Matching Grant is $4,000 with a $4,000 local match. The grant would be for the Roby Fitzgerald Adult Center to help with safety measures.
The Tourism Enhancement Grant for $100,000 would be split between the Town of Greeneville, Main Street: Greeneville, and the Greene County Partnership with a 10% local match. The funds would be used to retain restroom trailers for public events.
The Violent Crime Intervention Fund Grant for the Greeneville Police Department is in the amount of $158,442 with no local match and will go toward the purchase of three additional vehicles for the department. The department also got approved to purchase two 2023 Dodge Durango’s for Admin and Detectives in the amount of $84,000, and Bullet Proof Vests and Vest Carriers totaling $10,300.
The body armor and carriers will replace equipment that will soon be out of date, according to Police Chief Steve Spano. The funds for those purchases are available in the budget. Spano says the town will receive reimbursement funds from the federal government with the Bullet Proof Vest Grant that was approved.
