Due to the threat of severe weather this afternoon, both Greene County and Greeneville City Schools are closing at 1:00 PM. All afterschool activities in the county system have been canceled.
A Tornado Watch has been issued in several counties including Greene County until 7 PM tonight. Thunderstorms are expected today with some of those storms likely to become strong to severe. Primary risks will be damaging winds and large hail. There is also the threat of torrential downpours capable of producing localized flooding. An isolated tornado across the Watch Area cannot be ruled out.
A Tornado Watch means that conditions exist for the formation of strong storms that could produce tornadoes across the watch area. It does NOT mean that a tornado has been spotted or that one is immanent. Listeners in the area should keep tuned to local radio and weather sources for updated forecasts and timing of today’s weather.
