Today is the Greeneville Municipal Election.
A total of 335 early votes were cast during the early voting period that ended on Saturday.
This year’s election is only for those who reside within Greeneville’s 1st ward. The only race on the ballot is for 1st ward council member, with Ginny Kidwell, Kriston Girton and Tim Ward running.
Girton was first elected to the council in 2021.
Kidwell was chosen last year to fill a vacant seat on the council. Kidwell previously served on the Greeneville Board of Mayor and Aldermen for 10 years.
Ward retired as chief of the Greeneville Police Department in April after serving nearly 33 years with the town.
This year will also be the last odd-year election for the Greeneville City Council. The two candidates who receive the most votes in this year’s election will serve a 3-year term in order to realign with even-year elections in 2026.
Voting is taking place today at Doak and Tusculum View Elementary Schools and Greeneville High School. Radio Greeneville will provide updates on election results tonight after the polls close at 8.
