A new one-time tax holiday for food items begins in Tennessee Today.
Governor Bill Lee and the General Assembly passed the Tennessee Works Act Public Chapter 377 in May of this year.
This act includes the dedication of $273 Million for a one-time, three-month sales tax exemption of grocery items.
All food items are exempt except for:
- Alcoholic beverages
- Tobacco products
- Candy
- Dietary supplements.
Foods purchased from a vending machine are still subject to sales tax, according to the Tennessee Department of Revenue.
The holiday will continue until 11:59 on October 31st.
