Two people were arrested on drug charges at an Erwin Highway convenience store on Tuesday morning.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Department responded to the U Shop convenience store near the 107 Cutoff around 8:30 AM after receiving multiple calls of a possible domestic dispute. The first deputy on the scene saw James Hale exit the vehicle and enter the store. He was followed by Stephanie Hale.
When asked if any illegal substances were inside the vehicle or on them, neither would give a straight answer. Due to their inconsistencies and the history of the residence they are staying, a K9 officer was called to the scene. After the K9 had a positive alert on the vehicle, a search was conducted. A needle was found beside used Narcan. A clear baggy of a substance identified as meth was also found, along with a glass pipe.
The two were placed into custody. Before being transported to jail, Stephanie Hale stated James Hale asked her to stash something in her pants. She had approximately one gram of methamphetamine concealed, along with a baggie of cotton filters.
James and Stephanie Hale were both charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a schedule 2 drug. James Hale was additionally charged with driving on a revoked license 3rd offense.
