A home on the Asheville Highway was destroyed by an afternoon fire on Tuesday.
The home at 4444 Asheville Highway was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. A witness that was passing by reported seeing flames coming from the carport area. The witness attempted to make entry to the front door but was unable as he heard an explosion. The fire quickly spread throughout the structure.
According to the Greene County Sheriff’s report, the victim stated he put a pizza in the oven and some time later after returning from outside the home, he saw the kitchen was filled with smoke and fire. Some damage was also done to a nearby home from the fire.
Fire Departments including South Greene, Debusk, Sunnyside, and Greeneville Fire responded, as well as EMS, Greeneville Light & Power, and the Debusk Rehab Unit.
