Early voting begins Friday for the August Greeneville Municipal Election and will run through Saturday, July 29.
Hours for early voting at the Greene County Election Commission Office on CCU Boulevard will be 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM Monday through Friday and Saturday from 8:30 AM until noon.
This year’s election is only for those who reside within Greeneville’s 1st ward. The only race on the ballot is for 1st ward council member, with Ginny Kidwell, Kriston Girton and Tim Ward running.
Girton was first elected to the council in 2021.
Kidwell was chosen last year to fill a vacant seat on the council. Kidwell previously served on the Greeneville Board of Mayor and Aldermen for 10 years.
Ward retired as chief of the Greeneville Police Department in April after serving nearly 33 years with the town.
This will be the last odd-year election for the Greeneville City Council. Charter changes were approved earlier this year to extend the term length for council members from 2 to 4 years and to realign local elections to even years. The two candidates who receive the most votes in this year’s election will serve a 3-year term in order to realign with even-year elections in 2026.
The Greeneville Municipal Election will be held on Thursday, August 3.
