Town of Greeneville Parks and Recreation announces the grand opening of the sand volleyball courts at Hardin Park today starting at 10 a.m. Twenty matches are scheduled to be played between 10 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
The courts are the latest addition to Greeneville’s largest park, which houses four ballfields, a swimming pool, five pavilions, three playgrounds, a walking trail, and a skatepark. The six-court sand volleyball complex includes a concession stand, restroom facility with press box, and meeting rooms.
League play and tournaments can now be offered at the complex. The Parks and Recreation department plans to bid on, recruit, and host major collegiate tournaments and local/regional high school tournaments. Outside of league play, citizens can use the courts for general exercise, open play, or conditioning.
The complex was built by the Parks and Recreation department and contractors to repurpose a softball field into six sand courts. Beach volleyball has become one of the fastest growing sports in the United States. Partial funding for the complex came from the State of Tennessee Tourism Enhancement Grant or “TEG” Program. Sports-related tourism is a great way to enhance our community development in Greeneville and Greene County.
The Parks and Recreation department looks forward to showing the public this new complex from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
