UPDATE: The TWRA has identified the victim as 42-year-old Whitney Dunn of Piney Flats.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency reported a boating fatality in Washington County Thursday morning.
TWRA responded to a call regarding a missing boater around 6:30 AM at Boone Lake.
A female boater reportedly left a group of friends the previous night and did not return home. A vessel was found near Point 20, downstream from Jay’s Boat Dock that had impacted the shoreline and was partially submerged.
TWRA officers deployed a remotely operated underwater vehicle unit to locate the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Washington County Rescue and Kingsport Lifesaving Crew also responded to the scene and assisted in search and recovery operations.
The incident remains under investigation. The total of boating related fatalities in Tennessee this year is now at 15.
