A Greeneville man was arrested yesterday before 3 AM with multiple charges after fleeing from deputies and loosing control in a ditch.
Deputies were on the Erwin Highway when they saw a Honda in violation of the muffler law. The deputy attempted to catch up but the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed, driving into the opposite lane. The vehicle reportedly passed other cars on the double yellow line and continued evading police, avoiding stop signs.
The driver, later identified as Michael McCraw, eventually lost control in a ditch near Cedar Creek Road. McCraw allegedly tried to drive the vehicle out the ditch and ended up hitting the deputy’s patrol car, before coming to a stop. According to the report, the driver crawled out through the window onto the ground. There was also a female passenger who refused to exit the vehicle, causing deputies to kick in the window. The deputy drew his Taser and McCraw was taken into custody. The passenger was reportedly held at gunpoint until she exited the vehicle.
A search was conducted and deputies found items including a baggie containing what appeared to be Methamphetamine, weighing approximately 10.12 grams. Several charges were given to the suspect including Felony Evading, Driving on Revoked 3rd, and Driving while in Possession of Methamphetamine. The passenger was later released from custody.
