Greene County Commissioners approved for the County Mayor to submit an application to the Tennessee Valley Authority for grant funding to develop the Snapps Ferry Road property purchased by the county.
The county bought the property due to the potential the site has for future businesses, industries, and jobs that could be provided to citizens. Mayor Kevin Morrison said this was the first time the County has done this, the infrastructure is there and it might be the only time to turn it into something quickly. Grants would be needed to develop the site.
The property if developed will support up to a 350,000 square foot space with no official decision on what type, or how many buildings there would be. If grants are not received, the site could potentially be sold and the plans would be terminated. Nineteen commissioners voted to approve the resolution with Commissioner Larkin Clemmer voting against it.
The renovation of the former Greene County Greeneville Humane Society Facility was approved, with Commissioner Tim White voting against it. The $1 increase for registration fees on all canine and feline rabies vaccinations was also approved, with Commissioners Tim White and Josh Arrowood voting against it.
