One person died and the other was taken to the Hospital with life threatening injuries after a motor vehicle accident Saturday afternoon.
The accident occurred on the 7200 block of the Horton Highway about 4 PM Saturday. The driver 19 year-old Alexandra Manolache and the passenger 22 year-old Triston Doss were reportedly traveling eastbound on the Highway at a high rate of speed. The driver passed another vehicle crossing the double yellow line and nearly struck a minivan head on. As Manolache attempted to get back into the correct lane, she over corrected causing the vehicle to drive into a ditch and off the right side of the road.
The report states once the vehicle went into the ditch, it struck a concrete driveway and caused the vehicle to begin rolling. It rolled about 4 times and struck a utility pole ejecting both Manolache and Doss from the vehicle. Neither were wearing seatbelts at the time. Doss was pronounced dead at the scene and Manolache was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center.
Greeneville Emergency and Rescue Squad, EMS, Greene County Sheriff’s Department, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to the accident. THP is handling the investigation. The driver’s current condition is unknown at this time.
