Greeneville standout sophomore Carson Quillen has been named a finalist for the TSSAA Class AAA Mr. Baseball as announced on Wednesday.
Quillen, a Virginia Tech commit, has had a great year batting, pitching, and fielding for the 30-win Greene Devils. At the plate, Quillen is hitting .442 with 42 hits, 11 doubles, 2 home runs, and 34 RBIs with 16 stolen bases. While playing shortstop and catcher as well as while on the mound, Quillen has a fielding percentage of 99% with one error in 88 total chances with 35 assists and 52 putouts.
Quillen has also put on a show on the mound this season for the Greene Devils while playing alongside two aces in Parker Shipley and Colton Richards. Quillen has pitched in 12 games with 8 starts and has a record of 7-0 with an ERA of 0.58. Quillen has struck out 48 batters this season while only giving up 4 earned runs this entire season.
Quillen was named Conference Player of the Year after helping guide the Greene Devils to an undefeated conference record and district title just two weeks ago. Quillen will be recognized in Murfreesboro on Tuesday, May 30th, where the Mr. Baseball winner will be announced.
Quillen and his Greene Devil teammates will begin Substate play today at Knox Gibbs with the first pitch at 6:30 p.m. with radio coverage on 95.5 FM WSMG.
