Two more petitions have been filed for the Greeneville Municipal Election, according to the Greene County Election Commission.
Tim Ward has filed to run for Greeneville councilmember in the 1st ward. Kriston Girton has filed to run for re-election to her 1st ward council seat. She was first elected in 2021.
Ginny Kidwell filed earlier in the week to run for 1st ward councilmember. Kidwell was chosen last year to fill the vacant seat for the unexpired term of Cal Doty, who resigned at the time due to changing his residency outside the 1st ward. Afterward, Doty ran for Greeneville Mayor and won the election. Kidwell had previously served on the Greeneville Board of Mayor and Aldermen for 10 years.
This will be the last odd-year election for the Greeneville City Council. The council approved charter changes last month to extend the term length for the City Council members to 4 years, realigning local elections to even years.
The qualifying deadline for the August 3 Town of Greeneville Municipal Election is Thursday, May 18 at noon.
