The Greeneville Municipal Planning Commission met yesterday morning and heard from Planning Director Randy Davenport regarding a workshop for the commission and other departments.
The workshop was suggested by Davenport. The Planning Commission ultimately has the final decision for developments getting approved, according to Town Attorney Ron Woods. It’s the commission‘s responsibility to deny or approve. As the Planning Director, Davenport says he can only collect information and present it to the commission. He can answer any questions someone may have, give his recommendation, and suggestions or opinions etc.
Davenport says there has been many projects over the last couple years and various types the town hasn’t seen before, so it can get overwhelming. The workshop is so there is a better understanding on what’s really behind the scenes when it comes to conversations with developers and regulations, but also to discuss details about various current and pending projects and the impact it will all have. In one way or another they are going to affect the other.
Davenport wanted to include the public works department in the workshop, as they are definitely apart of this impact. The Planning Commission agreed that meeting once a month wasn’t enough time to really understand the ins and outs of everything that could be addressed and a workshop would be scheduled soon.
