The victim was identified as 10-year-old Jackson Flanders in a fatal accident Friday afternoon.
The wreck occurred around 1:00 Friday in the 1400 block of Jones Bridge Road, near the Jim Fox Road intersection.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s preliminary report issued Saturday, a Nissan Rogue driven by 42-year-old Allison Flanders, was traveling west on Jones Bridge Road. The car crossed the center line, left the road on the left side, then drove into the ditch striking a tree. The vehicle came to an uncontrolled final rest sideways in the road.
Jackson Flanders was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver was wearing a seatbelt, but was trapped inside the car and had to be extricated. She was transported to a nearby hospital by a medical helicopter with life-threatening injuries.
Jackson Flanders was a student at EastView Elementary School. Greeneville City Schools will be providing counseling and mental health support for the students, faculty and staff, according to a release by the school.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Department, Greene County EMS, The Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad and the Sunnyside Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene.
No further details were available at this time. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is continuing their investigation.
