The Greeneville Police Department and Greene County Sheriff’s Department want to inform the public of scam phone calls which falsely report an active shooter situation.
Scam phone calls of this nature have been reported all over the country and recently in Tennessee. According to Patrol Captain Tim Davis with the Greeneville Police Department, “911 received an alert on the NCIC computer about how TBI was requesting to be notified if they started getting the calls like the surrounding areas. We acted out of an abundance of caution based on the information we had been given at the time.”
Captain Davis and Sheriff Wesley Holt with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department told Radio Greeneville News that all of the city and county schools were informed of the calls, as well as the school resource officers.
