The Greene County Board of Education met last week and heard from Greene County Education Association Representative Rhonda Lankford, who shared a few words regarding Teacher Appreciation week coming up this week.
Lankford started off by thanking the board for their continued support and also spoke on what teachers want and would like to see in the school system. To name a few, she said teachers just want to hear a simple thank you, they want to know what kids are excited to learn about and what have they learned that is exciting.
Most importantly, teachers want a mental health day, smaller classes, investments in their school, and a salary where they don’t need to work two or three jobs to support themselves. GCEA Representative Lankford wanted the board to know they were appreciated always as well as to speak on behalf of teachers, who just want to keep doing what they love to do, which is teach.
Teacher appreciation week is May 8th-May 12th. Take the time to thank your favorite teacher next week, let them know what you have learned, and tell them they are appreciated!
