Tusculum pitcher Drew Sliwinski and golfer Nilubol Panno have been named Zaxby’s Athletes of the Week. Panno earns her second straight Zaxby’s honor and the third of the season.
Sliwinski, a sophomore right-hander from Knoxville, Tennessee, recorded a pair of wins in relief while tossing 5.1 shutout innings as the Pioneers went 2-1 last week. He allowed two total hits, and two walks and recorded four strikeouts.
He pitched three innings of relief in Tusculum’s 9-4 non-conference win at Emory & Henry. He inherited a two-on, one-out jam and got a pop-up and a strikeout to end the threat. He pitched the final 2.1 innings in Tusculum’s 8-6 win at No. 16/15 Lenoir-Rhyne. He retired the eighth inning in order and worked around a one-out single in the ninth to record his second straight victory.
Sliwinski leads the Pioneers with his 17 appearances where he has pitched in 37.1 innings while posting a 5.54 earned run average. He has accounted for 35 strikeouts and has a 2-3 record with a save.
Panno, a senior from Phuket, Thailand, established a new 54-hole school record while finishing fourth at the South Atlantic Conference Championship. She carded a final round 72 to give her a three-day score of 219 to break the previous school record of 222 set by former teammate Jennifer Keim. Panno shot rounds of 71-76-72 to earn a spot on the SAC All-Tournament team. She has accounted for eight top-20 finishes this year including six times in the top 10.
She lowered her season stroke average to 75.72 which is the second lowest in a TU campaign. Her career scoring average of 78.76 is also the second lowest by a Pioneer.
The Tusculum University Athlete of the Week Award is sponsored by Zaxby’s, located at 3280 Andrew Johnson Highway in Greeneville. The Zaxby’s Athlete of the Week Award honors one male and one female athlete each week from an in-season sport.
