A Greeneville man reported $20,000 stolen from him at Creekside Market on Asheville Highway this week.
The Hixon Circle man told the Greene County Sheriff’s Department that he went into the store around 10:30 Tuesday morning to buy lottery tickets. He had two wads of money in his pocket and put the $20,000 on the counter. He removed $100 to pay for the tickets, and went to look at other tickets with the $100 in his hand. He paid for the tickets with the money he had in his hand and left. The victim realized a short time later that he had left the $20,000 on the counter.
The owner of the store reviewed surveillance video, which showed a woman taking the money. The suspect was identified in the report, but has not yet been charged in connection with the incident.
