The Greene County Election Commission met yesterday afternoon and re-appointed their Chairman Charles Johnson and Secretary Charlena Dean.
All members voted and agreed that both were doing well in their position and were happy to re-appoint. Three more members in the commission were sworn-in yesterday as the board needs to be appointed every two years and is done by the state election commission. Current members include Latasha Keller and Matthew Hensley, and a new member William Edmonds was welcomed. Edmonds was a Democratic Machine Technician and will be an asset to the commission with his background. In 2016 he began in his machine technician career and was also a poll worker at that time.
The commission appointed Sandra Love as their new Democratic Machine Technician as they believe with her experience and knowledge, she would do well in that position. Also discussed was a new polling location to replace the current at the Courthouse. The parking situation isn’t ideal when it comes to voting and the commission discussed possibly having a location at East View Elementary School, after hearing feedback from Administrator Justin Reeves.
Other options included Greeneville Cumberland Presbyterian Church, First Baptist Church, and Eastview Recreation Center. After one denial on a request, no response from another, and a potential conflict in scheduling, Eastview Elementary School was thought to be the best option in regards to location and parking. More time is needed to discuss the location with the school and details will be provided in the upcoming meetings.
