Quick response by Baileyton Police Chief Josh Ferguson saved a man from a burning car this morning.
A car exiting the interstate in Baileyton hit a power pole and began to catch fire just after 8:30 AM. Chief Ferguson, who is also a member of the United Volunteer Fire Department, responded to the scene and was talking to the driver when smoke and flames erupted from the engine. Ferguson pulled the man from the car to safety. The man was confused after the accident and was transported by EMS to a local hospital for evaluation. Ferguson was able to also use a fire extinguisher from his cruiser to help contain the fire until a fire truck arrived.
The United Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene with four volunteers to extinguish the fire. Greeneville Light & Power and the Town of Mosheim Police Department also responded.
