A public hearing was held at the Greene County Commission meeting yesterday evening and commissioners heard from Lori Grabner with the Greeneville Greene County Coalition, for the homeless. Grabner stated they’re a coalition that wants to be acknowledged and become an entity, in order to help those struggling.
The coalition had their first meeting just last week and is ready to take on an issue that is major in the county. One day at a time, one person at a time, Grabner believes they can make a change in the community. She was passionate about the cause and said incarcerating the homeless does not help them. Compassion without action is useless she said and there are grants that could help with their mission, they just need permission to act on those issues.
After a brief discussion and no objection, the request to be acknowledged as an entity was approved. The Greeneville Greene County Coalition for the homeless will be able to continue with their mission in the hopes to be a part of a response team, when receiving calls regarding the homeless.
