Playing with only eight girls for the majority of the season, the North Greene Lady Huskies entered the 2022-23 looking to surprise and persevere. They did both all season long including in the 2023 TSSAA State Basketball Tournament from Murfreesboro.
The Lady Huskies would play outstanding defense against Van Buren County and held them under 10 points for the first 12 minutes of the ball game and would trail by only two at halftime. The Eaglettes would find their offense out of halftime en route to a 10-point victory in the Class A Elite Eight as Van Buren County would defeat North Greene 55-45.
Both teams would struggle to find offense including the Lady Huskies who shot 32% from the field. Sonya Wagner led North Greene with 15 points but would be called for her fifth foul with 4:40 to play in the game. Sophomore Hannah Miller added 13 points and 8 rebounds in the loss for the Lady Huskies. Van Buren was led by Layla Bouldin with 21 points on 5-of-17 shooting going 11-for-15 from the free-throw line. The Eaglettes would shoot 27 free throws compared to the 11 for the Lady Huskies.
North Greene was stuck under .500 for the majority of the season but made a late turnaround including finishing runner-up in both the District and Region Tournament with their only postseason losses before Wednesday to Hampton, who earned a victory in Murfreesboro on Wednesday to advance to the State Final Four.
The Lady Huskies finish the season 20-18 and will graduate four seniors including 1,100-point scorer Sonya Wagner, Grace Buchanan, Cambell Gaby, and Zoe Sanders.
