Led by six seniors, the Greeneville Lady Devils will step into the Murphy Center today as one of the most experienced teams on the floor, but they also carry the heartbreak from last season’s loss in the Elite Eight. The Lady Devils will look to take the next step this season as they open play in the Class AAA State Tournament against Livingston Academy at 10:00 a.m. CT / 11:00 a.m. ET from Murfreesboro.
With the win over Seymour, Greeneville moved their record to 27-8 this season with that 30-win mark the ultimate goal as that would mean the Lady Devils would be bringing home the first girls’ basketball gold ball in school history.
Led by Miss Basketball finalist Lauren Bailey, Greeneville has played some of it’s best basketball over the last month winning eight of its last nine games with the one loss coming to Elizabethton, who will be joining Greeneville in this year’s State Tournament.
Greeneville’s Elite Eight opponent will be Livingston Academy out of Livingston, Tennessee with a record of 27-7 with four of those losses coming to Upperman this season. This will be Livingston Academy’s first trip to Murfreesboro since 2014 and their 19th overall. The Lady Wildcats were powerhouses in the early 90’s and early 2000’s winning four state titles between 1990 and 2004. Livingston Academy is led by elite sophomore Ellie Butler, who scored 23 points in the Livingston Academy substate win over Soddy Daisy.
Coverage of Greeneville and Livingston Academy begins with the Tournament Tipoff Show one-hour before tipoff at 10:00 a.m. ET with tipoff live from the Murphy Center with Brian Stayton at 11:00 a.m. ET on 99.5 FM / AM 1340 WGRV, wgrv.com, Comcast Channel 18, and 103.1 FM WIKQ.
