The Greeneville Board of Mayor and Aldermen will meet Tuesday at Greeneville Light & Power.
On the agenda is an updating on staffing for the Greeneville Fire Department. According to a report prepared by the First Responder Committee, the number of calls for service is expected to increase more than 600 percent since the last personnel increase in 2005. The committee recommends hiring two additional personnel per shift in order to staff the recently purchased rescue pumper, which went into service in November.
A resolution to apply for a SAFER grant to fund the additional positions will be voted on during Tuesday’s meeting. The grant is in the amount of $435,000 over a three-year period.
Also on the agenda are several special event requests related to the upcoming 28th annual Iris Festival, which will be held May 20 and 21 in downtown Greeneville. In addition to the Iris Festival, the Sundown on Depot car show will be held that weekend, along with a 3 Mile Walk sponsored by Keep Greene Beautiful and the BRAGco cycling event.
The board will also vote on the reappointment of Dr. Jamie Parman-Ryans to the Greeneville Historic Zoning Commission for a five-year term, and consider several applications for a six-year position on the Industrial Development Board.
Tuesday’s meeting of the Greeneville Board of Mayor and Aldermen begins at 4 p.m. in the G. Thomas Love Boardroom at Greeneville Light & Power.
