Playing two of the top teams in the state in the Region Semifinals, both South Greene and Chuckey-Doak would battle, but come up short in the Region Semifinals on Monday and have their seasons come to an end.
South Greene would fall to Aloca 65-57 and have the Lady Tornadoes end the Lady Rebel season for the second year in a row. Madison Hensley and Jordyn Roderick each scored 12 points while Hailey Brooks added 10 in the loss for South Greene and Mak Bremer led Alcoa with 19 points in the win. South Greene has their winning streak of 14 games snapped and ends the season 23-9.
Chuckey-Doak has been one of the best high school basketball stories in the state this season with their 2022-23 win total tallying more than the last five seasons combined, but the feel-good story would come to an end on Monday.
The Lady Knights would fall to Gatlinburg-Pittman 79-49 in the Region Semifinals from David Crockett High School. Chuckey-Doak would battle early, but the size and defense of the Lady Highlanders would prove to be too much for the young Lady Knights, playing in their first Region Semifinal since 2018.
Chuckey-Doak was led in scoring by sophomore Saniah Atchison with 16 points in the loss. Nya Burns led GPHS with 27 points while star Maddy Newman was held to only 9 points by the Lady Knights’ defense.
Chuckey-Doak wraps up their turnaround season with a record of 18-15 and a ton of optimism going forward led by first-year head coach Kyle Donahue.
