With a Miss Basketball finalist fouling out late in the fourth quarter and a wild three-pointer sending the game into overtime, things didn’t look great for the Lady Devils in the Region Semifinal. Then, Greeneville’s five seniors stepped up in a major way. Greeneville outscored Cocke County in overtime 13-6 and would eliminate Cocke County with a 75-68 win from Elizabethton High School on Monday.
Chloe Marsh would lead the Lady Devils with 20 points including going 10-for-10 from the free throw line. Lauren Bailey, in limited minutes due to foul trouble, would still score 17 points while Kyla Jobe scored 13, and Anna Shaw with 9 points in the win for the 26th victory this season for Greeneville.
With the win, Greeneville advances to the Region Final where they’ll face rival Elizabethton in enemy territory on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. with radio coverage on 99.5 FM/AM 1340 WGRV and wgrv.com.
Not near as much drama from West Ridge High School as the North Greene Lady Huskies would take down Miss Basketball finalist Lyndie Ramsey and Unaka 50-32 to advance to the Region Final in Region 1-A.
It was North Greene’s well-rounded play compared to the superstar play of Ramsey as the Lady Huskies would put three players in double-figures led by Hannah Miller, who finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Sonya Wagner added 14 points and Cambell Gaby had 10 in the win while Haley Bailey had 7 points and 15 rebounds.
Unaka’s Ramsey finished with 30 of the Unaka 32 points and finishes her career with 2,902 career points; a Northeast Tennessee career record. The Lady Huskies will play Hampton for the Region Championship from West Ridge on Wednesday with tipoff at 7:00 p.m. on 103.1 FM WIKQ. With a win, North Greene will host the substate game on Saturday while a loss will have them traveling to either Oneida or Harriman for substate on Saturday evening.
