Clean-up continues on the Newport Highway after a tractor-trailer overturned around 8:00 this morning.
The wreck occurred in the 7200 block of Newport Highway near Old Kentucky Road when the tractor-trailer driven by 60-year-old Troy Butler of Jefferson City ran off the roadway, struck a utility pole and overturned. The truck, which was hauling cases of baked beans, came to a final rest in the front yard of a residence on Newport Highway.
The roadway remained closed through the early afternoon. One lane opened up to traffic shortly before 3:00, with traffic lights installed to control flow. Motorists should expect delays and possible re-closures of both lanes until clean-up is complete.
Butler was not injured in the wreck. He was charged with failure to exercise due care, according to the accident report from The Tennessee Highway Patrol.
