Chuckey-Doak entered the postseason ranked in the state top-ten in Class AA, but the thorn in the Black Knights’ side struck again on Tuesday night as the South Greene Rebels would win the District 1-AA District Championship 73-64. Cooper Kelley would get hot from outside and lead the Rebels with 25 points while Jase Roderick added 11 in the win.
In the consolation game, West Greene would defeat Johnson County 95-78. The Buffs would get another big performance from Leyton Frye, who finished with 37 points while Ethan Turner added 23 in the high-scoring win.
Jase Roderick was named Tournament MVP while Cooper Kelley, Connor Marshall, and TJ Buckner were named to the All-Tournament team from South Greene. Representing the Black Knights on the All-Tournament team would be Cadin Tullock, Christian Derry, and Ethan Grindstaff while representing West Greene would be Leyton Frye and Ethan Turner.
In the District 1-A consolation game, North Greene would stumble and fall to Unaka 68-56 to finish fourth. Jason Britton and Bennett McClain would be named to the District 1-A All-Tournament team.
In the Region Tournament quarterfinals now set for Saturday, South Greene will host Pigeon Forge and Chuckey-Doak will host Union County. On the road to begin Region Tournament play will be West Greene as they travel to Gatlinburg-Pittman and North Greene as they travel to Jellico.
