The Budget and Finance Committee met yesterday morning and approved the proposed national settlement funds for the Opioid litigation, which is estimated to be around $26 B and the counties portion, will be deposited into their Capital Projects Fund.
County Attorney Roger Woolsey said the funds would be allocated based on population size and would be paid overtime. Greene County joined with other counties and municipalities across the state and nation to prosecute civil suits and claims. Originally filed by the National Prescription Opioid Litigation Consortium and the Jesse Law Firm, the proposed settlements have been reached with five companies: CVS, Walgreen’s, Walmart, Teva, and Allergan.
Woolsey said companies were estimated to keep paying out anywhere from 6 to 18 years. The Greene County Commission will also have to vote and approve the settlement funds in their meeting scheduled for February 21st. Once approved it will be deposited into the Capital Projects Fund.
