Several local volunteer fire departments are among nearly 150 across the state that will receive grant money as part of the Volunteer Firefighter Equipment and Training Grant Program.
The $5 million program awards grants to departments which can be used to purchase equipment or to help meet local matching requirements for federal equipment grants.
Since the inception of the program in 2020, more than $6.5 million has been used to purchase gear, hoses, cameras and other pieces of equipment for volunteer fire departments statewide.
Nearly 200 departments applied for grant money through the State Fire Marshals Offices. Among the local departments that were chosen are Orebank, Mosheim, St. James, Town of Mosheim and Fall Branch.
