An Afton man was arrested Saturday on multiple charges after he was pulled over for having tinted windows that looked to be darker than the legal limit in the state.
An officer from the Greeneville Police Department spotted the vehicle near Bolton Road and Roller Street around 5:30 that Saturday afternoon. The driver, identified as Corey Mathes, according to the report appeared to be nervous during the traffic stop as his hands were shaking. He was asked to step out the car and the officer noticed he stuck a pill bottle in between his seat and center console. He was detained and a search was conducted.
Located was a pill bottle with 5.5 Suboxone, 2 Xanax bars, a syringe and a small tube with a spoon inside of it used to snort narcotics in powder form. A backpack was found in the back seat with magazines in. Mathes stated he did not have a gun due to being a felon, but a Taurus 9mm inside of a lunch box in the trunk near the spare tire was later found during the search, with a bill of sale written in someone else’s name.
He was charged with multiple charges including window tint law, driving on revoked license 3rd, and more including unlawful possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
