A Chuckey couple reported a scam to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday.
One of the victims said his computer started acting unusual and shortly afterward he received a phone call from someone claiming to be with Microsoft Security. The scammer said the computer had been compromised and he needed remote access to it. The victim followed the instructions to grant the caller access to his computer. The caller then showed something on the computer screen stating the victim was under investigation for child pornography.
The victim was instructed to give the caller access to his account information. The victim then accessed his and his wife’s personal and business bank accounts.
When the incident was reported to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, neither victim had noticed any unusual or unauthorized transactions on their accounts. The name the caller used, as well as the phone number he called from, were listed in the report.
